Patriots Against War Profiteering

psssts

Several generous donors have started a program so that as many community organizations, schools, churches and other groups (or people) as possible can see 'Iraq For Sale: The War Profiteers'. The program is called Patriots Against War Profiteering and the money given will enable DVD's along with our Action Guide (more on that later) and Voter Registration forms to be distributed for free to deserving groups. Now who are deserving groups? That's where you all come in.

We would like ideas from you as to where or to whom these copies of the documentary should be distributed. They can be general suggestions or names of specific groups that you think should see this movie. Currently there are 6,000 DVD's to be distributed. We are hoping that a few more donations for the program come in so we end up with 15,000 DVD's that can be sent out. As you know, our goal is to have as many people as possible see this film. Who do you think will be most impacted by the film? What local community group should have a copy for their members? Which organization doesn't have funding to buy their own copy? Let us know your thoughts!

The movie is still being edited, and a rough ROUGH edit will be screened soon. As the editing continues, we are going forward with our education and outreach plan. The two biggest components of the plan are Voter Registration and our Action Guide. We all know how important voting is, so we have decided to make sure there will be voter registration at every theatre where Iraq For Sale is playing. During the first two weeks the DVD is available, we are going to send out a voter registration form along with the DVD's that are sold or given away. The Action Guide is a booklet that will be given out along with the DVD's sent thanks to our Patriots Against War Profiteering. We will also make the Action Guide available to all of our partner organizations and house party hosts as a download. The Action Guide will contain information from 12 prominent organizations who will outline their ideas for action to end war profiteering and human rights abuses in Iraq. My deadline for the pieces to be submitted by these organizations is August 1st and I will give you the full list of participants then.

The other thing we are planning is a Los Angeles premiere of the film sometime during the first week of September. As details firm up, I will give you more info.

That's all for now. Looking forward to your suggestions for the Patriots Against War Profiteering project..

Best,
Jim

Dear Brave New Filmers:

You might consider sending a few copies to WPKN Bridgeport CT 89.5 FM - WPKM Montauk NY 88.7 FM for their October fundraiser. for use as premiums. The station is home to Scott Harris' show Counterpoint and Between the Lines two of the best alternative political shows on the radio airwaves. I also do a show every other monday from 2 to 6 PM called Music Sacred and Profane (since 1983) and do make political commentaries. As premiums we would use the DVD's for on air fundraising and this would be a great way to publicize the film. Scott would probably be very pleased to have your films available as premiums when he is fundraising during his show and I will certainly use them.
I would be very interested to see the film myself and can make a portion of my show available for discussion of the film and telephone interviews with any or all of the producer-directors This interview segment can be of a good long length, i.e. as long as it takes. (I think anyhting up to an hour and if the discussion is still good even longer. What a contrast this will make with discussions of the Jonbenet murder). I will be happy to arrange screenings in the Litchfield CT-northwest CT area where I live as well.I am friendly with local activists and local political candidates as well.
To contact me: Nicholas Jacobs 860-672-6574 email josefkroyt
To contact me at WPKN: 203 331-9756...WPKN 89.5FM 244 University Ave. Bridgeport CT 06604 (remember I on air every two weeks so it is better to contact me at my home office.) If you do decide to send WPKN premiums I will put you in touch with the proper coordinator. Thanks and good luck, Sincerely, Nick Jacobs

The High Desert Catholic Worker would be more than happy to screen the film here at the CW house and at local churches, and also make it available to our sister houses in Southern California, so they can do the same. As peacemakers, we are in the business of educating people about the causes of war- Greenwald's films do this admirably. They need to be as widely screened as possible. Address: P.O. Box 3157

A search for "Robert Greenwald" on Netflix to date only produces 10 hits, so PLEASE see to it that this film title is added as #11 if even only under pending save status?

A word search for "Iraq" gleems 12 hits, and sincerly hope that also grows to 13 options soon for same reason. Many rural voters depend on mailed rented media sources!

Hello; I am a director with the World Community Film Festival on Vancouver island, British Columbia. We do regular screenings of documenataries in our community as well as a large annual social justice film festival. We screened "Wal-Mart: The High Cost...." when it was released and would dearly love to screen this at our event in Oct. I have tried to order and pay for it but have no confidence that the system was working. Either I get nothing or I am paying for three, but have no confirmation of any transaction, so please send us a DVd so we can do the screening in early Oct. Also, please note that some Canadian groups had trouble getting the Wal-mart dvd on time for their screenings becuse the shipping takes more time across borders. If you could send it a week or two earlier we would know we're covered.

We can also use the voter registration material for the network of American voters who are again mobilizing here for the US elections.

Thanks for all this tremendous work.....cheers....Wayne Bradley

We suggest that you allow your film to be shown on Olelo Community Access Television on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. You should have contact information at the end letting people know where to order copies. We can also get sponsors to show the film on the islands of Kauai, Molokai, Maui, Lanai and Hawaii. Ask for support in all areas of the country where community access television is available.

On Oahu, we can also arrange to show the film in a public venue and then tape interviews of people's reactions to the film. These interviews can also be run on community access television.

Oahu also has active groups such as Demilitarize Hawaii and NION (Not In Our Name) that would be interested in supporting this.

Budgets are always tight, so if we can get a donated copy that would be great! Although we are not in a position to host a screening now, in the future we are planning a small theatre in the library (There's no theatre at all in this small Appalachian town) & will be able to show films as long as we have public performance rights. Nevertheless, we have a big audience for anti-war materials, and I'm sure a lot of people will check it out if it is in the library. Thanks!

You should send copies of the movie to public access stations across the country. They usually need a local sponsor to air things so it might be better to have someone from the area submit them.

Here in Denton TX there is a local non-profit that has screenings all of the time that would love to have a copy. They even have an hour reserved on the public access channel where they air things. They are at www.peaceactiondenton.org.

Also, Free Speech TV on Dish Network is a great way to get national exposure. They can offer money if they air it. They are at Freespeech.org.

Use the remaining vestiges of free speech we have left and get that film out there.

I'm teaching Geography at two high schools in Switzerland. I already had the opportunity to show the Wal-Mart movie to students who were quite mesmerized by the commercial process. Showing them the Iraq movie would be great, as the topic is quite relevant according to what I intend to teach this year: desert and geopolitics. We will work on Sudan and how oil comforts the ethnic war in the South and in Darfur. So, if you can send me a DVD it would be nice. Unfortunately, there seems not to be any French subtitles, when the Wal-Mart movie had some. That would probably reduce the number of viewers, although both schools have 1700 students.

I would recommend my old high school, Shanghai American School in Shanghai China. I know it'd be severe long distance, but most of the kids there are people or children of people of Importance. They're wealthy and outspoken. And very globalized, as many of them are expat brats (I'm one). But being as far away from the States as we are, we're not always at hte heart of issues here. But because we're so far, we get to do alot. Like (I've emailed Robert Greenwald about this before) we can watch documentaries such as these in class. We studied Outfox and Bowling for Columbine in Psychology (and had to do a nasty writeup), and the most of the history classes (Global 9 for freshmen, world history and us history) are required to watch Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 and writeup on them. If anything, just send a notice their way. Inquire after the psychology and history teachers especially.
